This years Pentecost weekend was spent in Bellwald, Goms Valley, Wallis. My cousin's aunt lent us their enormous vacation chalet. The weather was perfect for hikes with views of the nearby glaciers that still survive in this valley. Bellwald is located not far from the famous Aletsch Glacier that ecologists have been trying to protect from melting.
Bellwald is the highest village in the upper Rhône River Valley at 1560 m. Unfortunately it seems to have turned into more of vacation home than a local village. In this early hiking season most of the chalets still had their shutters closed. It was quiet and gave us time to explore the area, meet miniature mountain goats, enjoy the spring sun and take in the wonderfully diverse and uncut pastures.
